Occupancy rates are measured by Smith Travel Research, or the STR Report - commonly referred to in the industry as simply "The Star Report." Lodging properties in destinations across the world partner with STR to provide the research company with valuable information on occupancy rates, average daily rates, number of hotel rooms sold, etc. In return, they are privy to information across the destination that allows them to compare their business with their competitors.
Destination Gettysburg receives a countywide report that measures these factors of participating hotels and motels in Adams County, Pa. Along with a few select studies and other research, the STR Report is extremely important to Destination Gettysburg staff as it evaluates the success of its marketing.
We are proud to announce that hotel occupancy in 2015 is doing well in comparison to 2014, even compared to 2013 during the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and the Gettysburg Address.
This July, occupancy in Adams County among participating hotels was 76 percent, nearly 12 percent higher than 2014, and slightly higher than 2013. In July this year, more than 51,500 hotel rooms were sold, up 9.2 percent over 2014. The average daily rate for overnight stays was also up - 4.2 percent over 2014 at $118.63.
This is especially good news in the years following the 150th anniversary and engages in a shift in its marketing strategy to focus on experiences beyond the Civil War history.
