The Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association Southern Chapter met last week at The Lodges at Gettysburg. Concluding the special meeting about PA Liquor Control Board updates, the networking session featured a sample of the Adams County Pour Tour.
Select Pour Tour participants set up tasting stations around the room and meeting attendees got the opportunity to sample the craft beverages, meet with some of the beverage makers and get a taste of the Pour Tour experience.
In 2017, Destination Gettysburg contracted with California University of Pennsylvania (CalU) to conduct a conversion study to carefully examine requests made within the last two years for Official Visitor Information (OVI) to plan a visit to Gettysburg and Adams County.
After collecting 1,894 responses, the team compiled a 27-page analysis of the findings. The study looked at whether the recipient recalled requesting information, if they recalled receiving it, the usability of the information and the impact it had on their visit. A collection of demographic information was also collected.
The most telling piece of data that was discovered from this study is that those visitors who request official information from Destination Gettysburg stay approximately one day longer than the general visitor. This was determined based on the length of stay for the converted “looker to booker” of 3.6 days verses that of the participant in the visitor study conducted in market each year by CalU.

Destination Gettysburg's End of Summer Social is an event for members to relax after the end of a successful summer season in Gettysburg and Adams County.
This year's End of Summer Social took place on Oct. 19 at the scenic Stone of Scone Farm in Littlestown and featured activities such as massages from Breaktime Massage, Tarot Card Readings by Charla, yard games with prizes and a picnic style dinner catered by The Ragged Edge and beer samples provided by Battlefield Brew Works.
Attendees were sent on a scavenger hunt to meet different members of Destination Gettysburg's staff, and members and Hospitality Heroes networked with each other (sometimes over a game of cornhole). Both raffle tickets and business cards were being handed out all through the evening.
At the end of the night, those raffle tickets turned into prizes for a lucky few including wine, gift cards, hotel accommodations and tickets to the National Apple Harvest Festival.
Destination Gettysburg hosted 11 tour companies for 3 days and 2 nights to highlight the destination, as well as the ability to hub-and-spoke from Gettysburg to Lancaster and Hershey. The hub-and-spoke method is a way for groups to see multiple destinations in one trip while still spending more time in our destination.
Highlights of the itinerary included focusing on interactive ways to experience history, the countryside of Adams County and our emerging craft beverage scene. Operators also had a chance to interact with 13 local businesses during a Member Expo at the Round Barn Farm Market to learn more about what the destination has to offer.

The cold, rainy weather didn't dampen the spirits of the Adams County tourism community in celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week, May 7-13.
Destination Gettysburg held a variety of activities throughout the week, including a Power of Tourism Luncheon where the organization announced the launch of a new economic development program, a Community Cookout on Friday where community members and leaders came together for a free lunch, as well as our annual tradition of thanking police and emergency responders for their hospitality with our visitors.
Five hundred group travel leaders and 16 tour operators converged on Adams County last week as part of Maryland Motorcoach Association's Annual Marketplace - an opportunity for destinations and businesses to connect with those that organize group travel.
Dozens of Destination Gettysburg's members participated in the Maryland Motorcoach Association Marketplace - either through the expo or afternoon FAM tours.
Destination Gettysburg has received great feedback on the event from expo exhibitors as well as group travel leaders and tour operators.
