Tourism Advocacy

Part of Destination Gettysburg’s role in the community is representing the local tourism industry in federal, state and local legislation and lobbying efforts.

Because of this role, Destination Gettysburg and its staff are active in industry organizations such as the U.S. Travel Association, the Adams Economic Alliance, Main Street Gettysburg and the Gettysburg-Adams Chamber of Commerce.

At times, Destination Gettysburg becomes active in collective efforts to promote tourism and its impact on the economy at a national and state and level, as well as be part of larger efforts to ensure that local legislation is not prohibitive to the growth of tourism and the impact that the industry brings to the community.

Destination Gettysburg and its staff works with the offices of U.S. Senators Pat Toomey and Bob Casey, U.S. Congressman John Joyce, State Senator Doug Mastriano, State Reps. Dan Moul and Torren Ecker as well as Adams County Commissioners and local municipal elected officials to ensure that tourism remains at the forefront of all economic issues and legislation.

President & CEO Karl Pietrzak is a member of the Pennsylvania Lodging & Restaurant Association (PRLA) - a statewide advocacy group that works with governments to ensure that tourism remains a top priority, and successful industry for all 67 counties.
