The Tourism Workforce in Adams County

According to state economic research, more than 6,400 employees in Adams County are impacted by tourism in some way. A large percentage of those workers are directly impacted, meaning they are employed with a company or organization that is in the tourism industry. Others are indirectly impacted through jobs at places that are frequently patronized by visitors such as gas stations, grocery stores or jobs in public service.

Also not counted among the 5,272 directly impacted workers are those that are rarely associated with tourism, like plumbers, electricians, landscapers, and contractors who are hired for projects at hotels, museums, restaurants and stores within the tourism industry.

While the tourism industry often touts visitor spending and tax revenue as major benefits of travel, employment that is supported by the millions of visitors in Adams County is equally important. Ranging from part-time positions, to full-time managerial and marketing positions, tourism supports the livelihoods of many workers in Adams County.
