international tourism
While foreign travelers do not represent a large part of Adams County total visitation, they remain an important market for the region and has an even further potential to grow as nearby metropolitan areas increase marketing to key international markets.
By far, the strongest international market for Adams County tourism is Canada, bringing in an estimated $637,000 in 2017, according to VisaVue, a report of credit card spending in the U.S. using the Visa credit card. Other strong markets include the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and China. Last year alone, travelers from at least 120 foreign countries visited Adams County. Collectively, the VisaVue report concluded that its foreign credit card holders spent an estimated $1.58 million in Adams County in 2017. Destination Gettysburg works throughout the year on international marketing efforts including participation in international trade shows and marketplaces such as IPW, Ontario Motorcoach Association, Travel Media Association of Canada and NAJ (North American Journeys). At these events, Destination Gettysburg’s sales and media teams meet with foreign tour operators and international media, respectively, in order to generate travel to Adams County. Additionally, Destination Gettysburg has entered into a partnership with BrandUSA in order to market Gettysburg and Adams County to foreign visitors through a national marketing campaign aimed at bringing travelers into the United States. |
