As part of its Annual Dinner on March 21, Destination Gettysburg honored Terry Fox, a licensed battlefield guide and leadership development guide, to receive the organization's second annual "Jim Getty Spirit of Gettysburg Award." The award is named after Jim Getty, a renowned Abraham Lincoln presenter and historian, as well as a great ambassador. Jim Getty wanted people from around the world to understand the character of the 16th President, but more so, he hoped that those same people would reflect on the importance of this town, a place that he considered home for more than half of his life. It is with this passion that Destination Gettysburg has created “The Jim Getty Spirit of Gettysburg Award,” an honor bestowed to the great ambassadors of tourism, leaders who contribute to a cause much bigger than themselves, and those that contribute so generously to the tourism community of Adams County, Pa. Four outstanding nominations were submitted to Destination Gettysburg and a selection committee is proud once again to honor an individual who resembles many of the same attributes as Jim Getty himself. Terry Fox has spent 47 years in the tourism industry, first giving tours to visitors from around the world, and now, helps companies and organizations learn about the lessons of leadership on the Gettysburg battlefield.
